If real freedom of expression and uncensored media distribution is going to continue growing towards a level of freedom we have unfortunately never seen yet, the next big wave is clearly going to need true self sovereign entirely web3 social media platform build out.
The early work from blue sky and lens protocol is promising, but needs rapid acceleration. The sooner we have a Youtube alternative free from arbitrary algorithmic and entirely opaque semi-woke semi-alt-right moderation impulses from the entirely corporate interest liability avoiding folks at YT, the better for all of humanity. Not just those of us that actually think that information and genuine debate in the marketplace of ideas is essential for the sustenance and flourishing of free societies.
Just what justification could YT possibly have for banning Bankless. It’s outrageous.
They do it because they can. It’s time to move from “trust us we won’t be evil”, to the platform’s we rely on being agnostic to the clearly non-toxic content being carried so they can’t be evil.
It’s not that moderation isn’t a very hard question to solve, but even in it’s earliest points the Blue Sky team is showing some smart insight in a way that doesn’t limit free speech and destroy the commons, unlike how badly all big tech has and continues to fuck it up.
